Opportunities exist for sharing some of your talents in the gift shop or by helping patients feel at ease in the waiting rooms. Join Clarke County Hospital Auxiliary now and start reaping the benefits of volunteerism!

History of the Auxiliary
The Clarke County Hospital Auxiliary began when three Osceola women; Julie Wilken, Evelyn Bristow, and Ellen Edwards, decided that the Hospital needed a gift shop to provide a service to patients, their families and Hospital personnel. Permission was granted by the Board of Trustees and space was provided at the west end of the cafeteria and the Auxiliary officially began on May 3, 1971, with 34 members. In 1972, the Snack Shop was added with the help of Gloria LeFebvre and Bernardine Simmerman. They served beverages, sandwiches and candy. Volunteers from the membership also helped.

Over the years, there have been many changes in the hospital and the gift shop. With the recent remodeling of the hospital, the gift shop was given a bright new home near the main entrance.

With the recent renovation to the Hospital additional volunteers are needed. The Auxiliary Volunteers new role will be hosting in the expanded lobby. The shifts for this area will also be half days. Volunteers will be orientated and will receive training for this special service

Profits from the Gift Shop, membership dues and other fund raising endeavors throughout the year are put toward four scholarships, which are awarded annually to students in the medical field. Remaining funds are used for hospital projects and equipment.

The Auxiliary sponsors and helps to staff Blood Center blood drives for the community each year. We hold an Autumn Open House, back sale, and furnish birthday treats for and Extended Care Birthday Party.
