New 3D Mammography Coming to Clarke County Hospital

We are pleased to announce that Clarke County Hospital will be offering 3D mammography exams starting Tuesday, January 10.  3D mammogram technology is an innovative system that increases breast cancer detection by 41% and provides earlier detection by an average of 15 months sooner than 2D alone.  We will be installing a Hologic® Selenia® Dimensions® system, which is the greatest new platform in breast cancer detection and it utilizes Genius™ 3D MAMMOGRAPHY™ technology.  This exam uses very low X-ray energy so the patient’s radiation exposure is well below the FDA guidelines.  A Genius™ 3D MAMMOGRAPHY™ exam is very similar to having a conventional 2D mammogram.  There’s no additional compression required and it only takes about 3-4 seconds longer for each view.  The addition of this technology exemplifies Clarke County Hospital’s vision statement which includes providing “early detection” and “providing technologically advanced life improving care” to the community.
