Dry Needling Services Now Available Through Clarke County Hospital Physical Therapy
Clarke County Hospital will be offering dry needling services through the Hospital’s Physical Therapy Department starting Monday, July 2, 2018. Dry needling is a minimally invasive technique that uses a thin needle inserted into the skin to treat underlying neural, muscular and connective tissues. It can be used to treat muscle dysfunction, pain, tightness, spasms, and trigger points. Trigger points are taut bands in skeletal muscle, also known as knots.
Research has demonstrated the positive effects of dry needling include increased blood flow, decreased muscle tightness, and an increase in endorphins which are body’s natural pain reliever. Dry needling can successfully treat common conditions such as neck and back pain, shoulder pain/impingement, tennis/golfer’s elbow, knee pain, muscle strains, tendonitis/bursitis/overuse injuries, carpal tunnel, and headaches (cervicogenic, tension, and migraines)
