Team Blue Iowa representatives Mark Good and Bill Potts have continued their commitment to prostate cancer awareness and prevention in Clarke County with a new donation to Clarke County Hospital.
On Wednesday, February 25, Team Blue Iowa met with Melanie Boyd, CEO of Clarke County Hospital; Chris Dorsey, Foundation and Transportation Manager; Shannon Harris, Communications Manager; and Dory Bakley, RN Infusion Nurse, to present a $5,000 donation in support of prostate cancer awareness and prevention efforts.
This contribution builds on Team Blue Iowa’s previous donation of $7,500 in October 2024. Funds from that earlier gift were used to help provide free PSA screenings for men in the community, increasing access to preventive care and early detection services. Clarke County Hospital looks forward to exploring additional ways to partner with Team Blue Iowa to raise awareness about prostate cancer prevention and expand access to preventive services, particularly for individuals who are uninsured or underinsured.
Team Blue Iowa raises more than $100,000 annually through events and activities including an awareness dinner, golf tournament, and 5K run/walk. These funds are donated to healthcare organizations across central Iowa to support education, awareness, and patient support services.
Team Blue Iowa’s mission is simple and powerful: Providing support and awareness to Iowans affected by prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer remains a significant health concern for men:
- It is the most common cancer in men, accounting for approximately 33% of all new cancer cases in men.
- About 10% of all cancer deaths in men are due to prostate cancer.
- Approximately 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
- In Iowa, 54.6% of men reported having a PSA test within the last year.
- 57.2% of Iowa men reported having a digital rectal exam within the last year.
Clarke County Hospital will continue using these funds to increase awareness of prostate cancer in the community and to support services and solutions that improve access to screening and early detection.
