Telehealth

What is Telehealth?

Clarke County Hospital is at the forefront of using broadband technology to provide patients' access to medical specialists. Telehealth facilitates health care directly between the patient and provider using the latest technology. A personalized telehealth visit allows the patient and provider the ability to communicate with each other via video camera and screen, as if in the same room.

Using skilled medical providers and current technology, patients located in the most rural areas have easy access to their own physician or numerous specialists. Training of our staff allows for quality telehealth visits. With the use of monitors, an electronic stethoscope, otoscope, and/or cameras, a physician can gather necessary information for diagnosis and/or treatment.

The hospital's telehealth system is also used to bring training to area emergency medical service crews and deliver health education to local school classrooms with video technology deployed to school districts and EMS hubs around the hospital's service area.

Privacy

Telehealth technology follows all current privacy and HIPAA standards. Medical information remains protected. All involved in a telehealth visit will be acknowledged - patient, physician and nurse will be introduced.

As with all medical treatment, the telehealth patient may:

  • Choose to have a consultation done via telehealth, or by traveling to a physician or specialist's office site.
  • Choose to stop a telehealth visit at any time.
  • While telehealth provides a very complete and thorough diagnosis, a physician or specialist may request a face-to-face examination.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where do telehealth visits occur?
A: You can have telehealth appointments from the comfort and privacy of your own home, on the go, at work, on break, on vacation, away from home

Q: What advantage does a telehealth visit provide?
A: Your physician may determine you need to be seen by a specialist. A telehealth visit can save you time and money by avoiding the need for you to travel out of town. If specialists are not traveling to various sites, you may also have the ability for the specialist to "see you" sooner.

Q: Will my insurance cover this?
A: Typically, most insurances cover most telehealth visits. One should always check with their insurance carrier for verification.

Q: Is extra paperwork involved?
A: No. A telehealth visit is treated like any medical center visit, with the general consent signed at time of registration.
